Inspiredd by Biodiversity Research is published by K&DM International Publishers in co-operation with ALTER-Net.
Never before has our planet's biological diversity been so threatened by human activity. Yet it plays a vital role in maintaining the health of ecosystems, as well as providing us with many valuable resources essential for our survival. For these reasons alone it is important that we understand biodiversity and the pressures it faces, so that we can develop credible responses. This requires effective scientific research.
European biodiversity research is rich and varied. It is also dispersed and disconnected and cannot be easily marshalled to deliver the information and knowledge required to address major biodiversity issues at a European scale. ALTER-Net is a five year project funded by the European Union's Framework VI programme. ALTER-Net is a Network of Excellence: its 24 partner institutes from 17 European countries are aiming to build lasting integration of biodiversity research, monitoring and communication capacity.

Peer Review Process – Public Consultation
The Editor-in-Chief makes an initial appraisal of each manuscript. If the topic and treatment are appropriate for the journal, the manuscript is sent by one of the editors to at least three competent referees: one scientist, one policy maker and one communication expert. Once the review process has been completed the editor responsible for the review process recommends acceptance, revision, or rejection of your manuscript. The final decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief. This procedure is designed to ensure that papers accepted for publication are of the highest scientific quality, are policy relevant and are optimally communicating the results to policy makers.
Research manuscripts have a "double blind" review process. Authors are not told who reviewed their paper and reviewers are not told who wrote the paper. Peer reviewers are informed of the identity of the authors after the manuscript is either accepted or rejected. After a decision is reached, a reviewer is free to contact the authors privately about the manuscript.
Due to the wide scope of the "Science-Policy interface" manuscripts they first undergo a public consultation. Papers are made available through the Inspiredd by Biodiversity Research website during a period of one month. The public can make use of the draft review feedback form to give comments on all aspects of the science-policy interface paper. This enables the peer-reviewers to get a good overview of comments from the wider science and policy community. The peers can decide to ask the authors to include comments into the paper.
A decision on the manuscript generally may be expected within 3 months of submission; delays in obtaining reviews may prolong this process. Manuscripts are sent out for review electronically, and all correspondence takes place via e-mail. Traditional high-quality, peer-review standards are applied to all manuscripts submitted to Inspiredd by Biodiversity Research.
Invited manuscripts are not reviewed.
Publication Frequency
Regular issues are published twice annually, with issues available as 'in progress' as soon as articles are published. Inspiredd by Biodiversity Research is published in April and October.
Open Access Policy – publishing fees
This journal provides open access to all of its content. Making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge and supports policy. Such access is associated with increased readership and increased citation of an author's work. Inspiredd by Biodiversity Research is not levying any charge for manuscripts published.
To help the journal offset its operational costs and permits it to continue to offer papers free of charge Inspiredd by Biodiversity Research invites as well research as policy organisations to subscribe to Inspiredd by Biodiversity Research’s knowledge base. This knowledge base offers the user a set of tools to find quick relevant information available throughout the journal. Fees to subscribe to the knowledge base are based on the number of personnel working within the organisation. For more information you can contact the sales department of K&DM International Publishers.
